Even Omonia Square, a monument to concrete and iron-curtain architecture, got grass, flowers and potted olive trees. There were concerts here at night as well. Many of the undesirables (immigrants, homeless, jobless, poor, addicts) were sent to other neighborhoods and there was a strong police presence here to keep them away. Even the gypsies were sent out of town and told not to come back until September though a pick-up truck full of them showed up during the closing ceremonies with a load of watermelons.
