Alonaki Cottage is certainly a unique accommodation. This is a small stone and wood house located in the center of the island, in the agricultural outskirts of the traditional village of Apollonia, 900 meters from the town center and 5 km from the nearest beach.
The surrounding area has small farms, grazing animals and plenty of peace and quiet, not to mention spectacular sunsets. The traditional old cottage has stone floors and timber ceilings, built over 100 years ago and is a prime example of Cycladic architecture with rounded walls, a fireplace and decorative nooks and crannies built into the walls.
Alonaki cottage has been artistically and beautifully furnished and decorated. The kitchen has two burners, a fridge, sink, oven and kitchen table. The bathroom is located off the kitchen. In a slightly separate building is the main bedroom with a salon attached to it with a single bed and sitting chairs. Through an outdoor passage is another small bedroom with a single bed.
The grounds are large with a panoramic view of a green valley, and Apollonia’s white buildings and blue domed churches. Within the grounds is one of Sifnos’ many ancient stone towers, plus two areas for sitting and enjoying the sunset, or having your meals outdoors.
The cottage is only accessible by a dirt path with some marble stairs, about a three minute walk from the road, some of it uphill. Please note that it is impossible to drive a car or motorbike to the cottage’s door.
