Barbounia are most people's favorite fish and are the most expensive. They have a unique sweet taste. I prefer them fried but they can be grilled too. In English they are called red mullet but they don't really have them in the USA. The Greek restaurants in New York buy the imported ones which taste different from the Greek barbounia. Koutsomoura are their cheaper cousins and some people actually like those better. |
