Many people want to rent an apartment in Athens, believing that having a kitchen will save them money, which may be true. Except chances are you will end up buying a whole lot of stuff for your kitchen that you won't use, or you will have to buy a pack of something that you only need one of. Combine this with the fact that there are hundreds of great restaurants and that is a big part of social life in Athens and you will feel like you can't go back to the one you loved because you still have all the food you bought that you have to eat before you leave. Then add the fact that most apartments and studios for rent are not right downtown within walking distance of the archaeological sites and the nightlife and restaurants and you may come to the realization that you would be better off staying in a hotel in or around the Plaka.
