PRIVATE TOURS: KATAKOLON, OLYMPIA
Katakolon is part of the
municipality of Pyrgos (Ilia). The town center is within a gulf
overlooking the Ionian Sea. It has a small port which is the main port
of pyrgos, a school, restaurants, a church and a town square. The main reason cruise ships stop here is to visit Ancient Olympia: a sanctuary of ancient Greece in Elis, is known for
having been the site of the Olympic Games in classical times,
comparable in importance to the Pythian Games held in Delphi. Both
games were held every Olympiad (i.e. every four years), the Olympic
Games dating back possibly further than 776 BC.
Panagiotis Zaharopoulos is a taxi driver, who helps you to visit all the importants sites at your short time at the port. He knows area very well and he will be happy to show you his favorite places, restaurants, beaches, churches, archaeological sites and more. He speaks English and
some Italian and Greek of course. He has been working as a professional taxi driver for almost 10 years. If you have more time is better for
you because Panagiotis has the opportunity to show you even more beautiful
places. You will find very good comments about him on the cruise sites bulletin boards and guest books.
