Hotels in Santorini come in several categories, the official rating system in Greece is:
- Lux (Cat. Lux), the general equivalent of a 5 star hotel. [ 5* hotels in Santorini ]
- A' class (Cat. A'), the general equivalent of a 4 star hotel. [ 4* hotels in Santorini ]
- B' class (Cat. B'), the general equivalent of a 3 star hotel. [ 3* hotels in Santorini ]

You may also come across T' class or tourist class - these are generally referred to as pensions or rooms to let but may also include the lower end of 2 star hotels.
More than any other Greek island, a high proportion of Santorini accommodation is not officially recognised as hotels. In the true tradition of Greek hospitality these properties are "rooms to let" however, in Santorini, this phrase takes on a new meaning. Encompassing studios, apartments, houses and villas, these "rooms to let" cover the complete spectrum of categories, from the modest to the most luxurious.

Where to Stay in Santorini.
When making your choice from the many properties and hotels in Santorini, it's worth noting that the desirable areas to stay in are Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigli and Oia, which are all on the Caldera and will provide the kind of sunsets that Santorini is famous for.

Santorini has some of the most distinctive and original beaches to be found anywhere in the world. These are located on the eastern side of the island, the villages of Kamari, Perissa and Perivolos all provide close proximity to the beach with a variety of watersports and generally offer a cheaper alternative to staying on the Caldera.
